Nik West is an accomplished female bassist and vocalist who has performed with Prince, Dave Stewart of the Eurhythmics and has appeared on the TV show “Glee”. Nik talks about starting out on guitar, which she learned from watching her dad, and eventually gravitating towards the bass, attracted by the sounds she heard on Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” and the fact that not many girls were doing it. A tomboy at heart, Nik saw playing bass as an irresistible challenge and later expanded her prowess to include vocals.
