A Radio Production Director who became a Voiceover Artist, a Voiceover Artist who became a Podcast Producer, a Podcast Producer who became a Podcast Guest.
Just like Gladiator (or nothing at all like Gladiator), Jim McCarthy (@jimmccarthyvos, JimMcCarthyVoiceOvers.com) has worn and continues to wear a lot of hats in his career. Presently he’s an Entrepreneur, Voiceover Artist, LED Lighting Seller, Podcast Producer, Corporate Filmmaker, Public Speaker for Sales in Creative Arts, Marketing and Business Strategist and now a guest on the very podcast/video series he helps Rich produce, #pickrichsbrain. Yes, one of things Jim does is sell LED’s as a part owner in a commercial LED lighting company called Big Dot Lighting in Nashville. www.bigdotlighting.com
When people ask Jim what he does for a living, his standard response has become, “I spin plates”.
For Jim, the sum of everything he currently does came from a 20 year run in the radio industry with stints at WRKI in Connecticut, CBS radio stations KXNT/KSFN/KLUC in Las Vegas and a 9 year run here in Nashville with 96.3 JACK fm and Mix 92.9. His passion became creating content and marketing for businesses that advertised on his stations as well as ushering them into the online video age.
That’s how Rich and Jim met in 2008. Rich wanted to get into doing voiceovers. Jim ended up with Rich in front of his camera to produce a video where the world could “meet” Rich in an unscripted and authentic way through a product Jim created called “VidSigs”. Fast forward almost ten years and you have a myriad of projects that Jim and Rich have worked on together, including a documentary shot in 2010 about the life of a blue collar, working Nashville musician that has yet to see the light of day called “Working The Dream”.
After radio ended for Jim, he spent a few years in the luxury automotive business where he says he really learned the most about sales process, closing and overall business 101. Once he became fully immersed into self-employment, he made sure to marinate his brain in daily doses of ongoing teaching, inspiration and guidance through current thought leaders like Gary Vaynerchuk, Grant Cardone and Tony Robbins.
Jim’s self awareness has been honed into a realm of ideation and encouragement for other business owners and entrepreneurs, particularly in adapting and teaching a sales process for creatives. In other words, he’s good at listening to entrepreneurs discuss their ideas and challenges and then saying, “Okay, here’s what you should do.”
